Power management company Eaton announced the global launch of Intelligent Power Manager™ software version 1.52, which can be integrated with the VMware vRealize® Operations™ platform. Now, data center and operations managers can use Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager software and Infrastructure Management Pack to manage the health, risk and efficiency of their power devices and equipment similarly to how they use vMware vRealize Operations to manage their information technology devices in a software-defined data center.
“Eaton’s integration with VMware vRealize Operations offers a single dashboard experience for managing compute, network, storage, power and rack systems. This directly supports VMware’s software-defined data center vision of offering a unified management plane across the data center infrastructure,” said Sajai Krishnan, vice president of product marketing, Management Suites Business Unit, VMware. “Customers can easily access this management pack from VMware Solution Exchange Marketplace and within minutes begin collecting data from Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager and analyzing it in VMware vRealize Operations.”
Eaton’s latest Intelligent Power Manager software integration with VMware enables a common user experience within VMware vRealize Operations to view and manage power and equipment, such as uninterruptible power systems (UPSs) and power distribution units (PDUs), reducing time and saving money by providing end users with rich analytics for power capacity planning and workload placement. When connected to VMware vRealize Operations, data center managers can also take advantage of its predictive analytics capabilities and smart alerts to assess the need for any preventative maintenance or repair services on their power and environmental devices.
In addition, Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager software offers end users a comprehensive infrastructure shutdown feature. This capability helps customers save time and money while reducing risks, allowing customers to gracefully shutdown an entire information technology environment without crashing a virtual machine or host server, even in data centers utilizing VMware’s High Availability host servers.
“As operators transform from a virtualized data center to a software-defined data center, it is imperative to have a comprehensive management operations application with the ability to proactively manage power devices for health, risk and efficiency alongside server, network and storage capacity,” said Hervé Tardy, vice president and general manager, Distributed Power Quality Division, Eaton. “The latest advancements to Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager software, highlighted by its recent integration with VMware vRealize Operations, deliver greater business value by allowing customers to combine management and control over data center operations.”
With Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager software version 1.52, customers now have more control over the PDUs that support their IT infrastructure. Users can turn PDU outlets on or off and reboot outlets using Intelligent Power Manager software for enhanced reliability. The latest platform also provides more granularity for managing actions and alarms in the case of a power or environmental event, providing more insights on the cause for an alarm so customers can take a more precise and quick action.
Eaton is an Elite level member of the VMware Technology Alliance Partner program and its Intelligent Power Manager software is certified VMware Ready™, the highest level of endorsement for VMware based on a detailed validation process. Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager software version 1.52 is available in a basic package that is free for up to 10 power devices, in addition to advanced platforms that offer end users more features and functionality for an optimized power monitoring and management system.
