Eaton's LED products honored in Next Generation Luminaires Indoor Solid-State Lighting Design Competition

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. … Power management company Eaton today announced that the 2014 Next Generation Luminaires (NGL) Solid-State Lighting Design Indoor Competition recognized the Metalux SkyBar™ light-emitting diode (LED) high-bay luminaire and the Portfolio 8-inch LED downlight from its Cooper Lighting Division. The prestigious competition recognizes and promotes excellence in the design of energy-efficient LED luminaires for commercial, industrial and institutional applications.

“Our team members strive to develop and deliver high-quality and reliable products that not only provide our customers with outstanding performance, but help them save on energy and maintenance costs,” said Mark Eubanks, president of Eaton’s Cooper Lighting Division. “The NGL recognition is among the most sought after and respected in the industry and we are honored to have our products recognized for technical innovation and quality by such credible industry sponsors and judges.”

The NGL competition is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America and the International Association of Lighting Designers. Since its inception in 2008, it has strived to make it easier for lighting designers and specifiers by identifying and awarding superior lighting quality LED products. Products are honored based on the results of judging from industry professionals. By encouraging new designs and technologies, NGL aims to increase market acceptance and awareness of LEDs for general‐illumination lighting.

To earn accolades in the competition, products must excel in several areas, including quality, performance, appearance, serviceability and value, as well as meet energy efficiency requirements. The extensive submission and judging process requires manufacturers to meet stringent documentation requirements that validate all performance and life claims to help ensure actual performance matches each claim. Products are submitted and installed in their appropriate applications for judges to evaluate their performance and appearance.

The Metalux SkyBar and Portfolio 8-inch LED downlight luminaires are among a group of 266 products submitted with 57 of the products recognized as winners for their excellence.
