Emcor Government Services Presents on a 10-Year Project with the CDC to Combat Legionnaires’ Disease,


EMCOR Government Services’ (EGS) Alan Spence, PE, RPA, CIT, Director Emeritus of EGS, served on a select committee with the CDC in a 10-year initiative to set the latest standard for minimizing the risk of Legionellosis (Legionnaires’ disease), the #1 waterborne disease in the U.S., with most cases related to building water systems.  Mr. Spence was an instrumental member of the committee, representing the interests of building owners and operators. The committee’s efforts culminated in ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 188-2015, which is an essential document for anyone involved in design, construction, installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, service, and/or ownership of centralized building water systems and components. Foster building owner and operator understanding of these requirements, 4. Establish understanding of building survey requirements, and 5. Engender understanding of the requirements for building water systems.”

 

In his most recent role as Director of the EGS Facilities Solutions Group, Mr. Spence oversaw a team of mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers, as well as Computerized Maintenance Management System personnel. His varied scope of responsibilities included property condition assessments, due diligence inspections, mechanical and plumbing system condition assessments, Reliability Centered Maintenance analysis and consulting, water treatment and Legionellosis consulting and evaluation, Energy Star verification services, and forensic analysis (such as X-ray and ultrasonic evaluation), infrared scanning and analysis, and root cause/failure analysis. Mr. Spence holds a Bachelor of Science in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology from Old Dominion University.
