Emerson Network Power's ASCO 5140 Connectivity Module redefines power monitoring and control by an embedded device

By Healthcare Facilities Today

Florham Park, N.J. — Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR) and a global leader in maximizing availability, capacity and efficiency of critical infrastructure, reported that its new ASCO® 5140 Connectivity Module redefines high performance, on-site power monitoring and control in real time for an embedded device.

"Facility personnel now can monitor and control an ASCO Series 300 Power Transfer Switch and the ASCO 5210 power and energy meter from anywhere on practically any web-enabled mobile or desktop device," said Mario Ibrahim, director of Products and Innovation at Emerson Network Power's ASCO Power business. The ASCO 5140 Connectivity Module is an optional embedded device in ASCO Series 300 Power Transfer Switches.

No other power monitoring and control systems are necessary, so the ASCO 5140 offers particularly high utility for small on-site systems with a single gen-set and power transfer switch that lack an external power monitoring and control infrastructure. Facility personnel can monitor a small power system entirely with this single, advanced module.

But, for large, campus-wide power systems, it's high-performance speed and data processing capabilities make it a seamless gateway to such external monitoring and control infrastructures as the ASCO PowerQuest® Power Monitoring and Control System and ASCO 5350 Remote Annunciator.

AES 128 bit encryption secures data and a built-in, four-port Ethernet switch allows 'daisy chaining' of multiple power transfer switches and eliminates the need for Ethernet switch adaptors.

For both small and large on-site power systems, the innovative ASCO 5140 Connectivity Module satisfies today's mainstream requirement to enhance power reliability by knowing what's happening in real time, or what's going to happen, and responding appropriately. It's a universal device that serves as the critical link for monitoring and controlling on-site power.

A sophisticated embedded webpage in the ASCO 5140 shows aggregated, real-time data on content-rich summary and monitoring screens. Monitoring capabilities provide information on power transfer and generator data, voltage and frequency, event logging, time delays, statistics and activities, alarms and email notifications configured to the facility's server email network, and a range of optional features. An energy consumption and power demand summary is available with the optional ASCO 5210 Power Meter.

Control and command capabilities allow authorized personnel to transfer and retransfer loads between normal and on-site power sources, and set the timer bypass. They also can start and shut down gen-sets for testing, exercising, maintenance and emergencies, and charging gen-set

The ASCO 5140 is platform independent, enabling users to connect to it via HTTP and from anywhere--a hotel room, airport, car, etc., from a variety of web-enabled mobile devices, including cell phones, tablets and pads. All that's needed is a browser. No additional plug ins or software are required and personnel can use their own organization's ISP, WiFi, cellular or other Internet access.

There are no monthly fees or charges. Additionally, interfacing with other remote monitoring systems is easy using Modbus or SNMP Protocol over standard Category 5 Ethernet cable.
