Before this summer, healthcare facilities did not have detailed Ebola guidance when it came to dealing with potential contamination control and healthcare worker protection, according to an article on the FacilityCare website. Facilities had to deal with unknown and unproven processes for laundry, medical waste, PPE and disinfectants.
Since then, CDC guidelines have been updated. The new guidance includes procedures for identifying effective disinfectants and promoting single-use applicators.
Four key points to look for in an effective disinfectant highlighted in the guidelines are efficacy, dwell time, ease of use and simplicity.
Moving forward, infection prevention and other environmental readiness groups will evaluate the overall use of products that cover such events and consider how they fit into daily use, the article said.
