Fla. hospital evacuates critically ill patients after power outage

Emergency power came on later at Kindred Hospital in downtown Fort Lauderdale and allowed the facility to continue to function


Kindred Hospital in downtown Fort Lauderdale, Fla., evacuated critically ill patients after a recent power outage, according to an article on the Sun Sentinel website.

Critically ill patients on ventilators were evacuated, although emergency power came on later and allowed the hospital to continue to function.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, which had eight rescue trucks on scene in minutes, put the number of evacuees at eight.

The remaining patients on ventilators had six-hour back-up batteries to run the ventilators.
