Over the next two to three years, the full impact of the Affordable Care Act will be felt. The issue for healthcare at the moment is the numbers, according to a blog on the FacilityCare website.
"Facility management professionals are already feeling the pinch. Many organizations are trimming operating budgets and staff and reducing capital investment. The operating budgets are being trimmed as part of the new business models being made to work in the future that is driven by the ACA," wrote Ode Keil.
Hospital managers are being pressured to reduce costs. Some staff is being trimmed, but the impact is on organizational structure, managing vendor contracts for maximum value, reworking capital plans for renewing infrastructure and existing buildings, and evaluating the role individual buildings will play in the envisioned future, Keil said.
