Gama Sonic USA has used their revolutionary technology to bring outdoor solar lighting to many commercial applications. In the case study below, Gama Sonic’s outdoor solar lighting is the perfect solution for a popular Florida RV Park and campground’s outdated lighting. I thought you might consider this case study (all or in part) for content at Building Operating Management Magazine.
RV Resort and Campground goes solar with Gama Sonic outdoor lighting
Riverside RV Resort and Campground, located on the west coast of Florida in Arcadia, is the ideal setting for sun-filled days and relaxing nights. Campers visit the resort and campground year-round for the spacious sites, amenities and organized activities. With 500 campsites nestled on 132 acres of land, the campground is a “home-away-from-home” from May through October for vacationing families and opens again from November until April, allowing snowbirds to escape the cold northern winters.
Out with the old and in with the new lighting
After almost 20 years, the RV resort and campground needed to replace its outdoor lighting. According to Sue Spalding, park administrator for the resort, with its location in the sunshine state, it just made sense to go with solar lighting.
Gama Sonic Outdoor Solar Lighting – the solar lights of choice
Spalding said she met Matt Cohen, National Sales Manager at Gama Sonic USA, at the National Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds Expo in Las Vegas in November 2014. When it was time to replace the traditional lights, she connected with Cohen.
Gama Sonic, founded in 1985, provides solar lighting products for homes and businesses with more than thousands of products installed worldwide. The company develops, manufactures and markets consumer and commercial/industrial-grade solar powered, energy efficient custom lighting solutions for a wide range of applications. Gama Sonic was well-suited to meet the outdoor lighting needs of Riverside RV Resort and Campground.
After his conversation with Spalding about her needs and expectations, Cohen suggested Gama Sonic’s Imperial II solar lights for the project.
“I had several different solar lights at the ARVC expo, but after comparing the aesthetics of all of our options, our Imperial II was the best fit for her needs,” Cohen said. “They are our semi-commercial solar lights, which also happen to be our brightest and most popular.”
Spalding said the installation process to replace the older lighting was simple and performed by the resort and campground staff members. And because there was no wiring, trenching or digging involved with installing the Imperial II solar lights, the process of removing the old electrical lamp heads and replacing them with the solar lamp heads on the existing poles was quick and easy.
Spalding placed the second order for the Imperial II solar lamp heads in October 2015 and called with an issue shortly after installing them. Spalding explained the situation, and Cohen quickly identified the problem.
“We were having a problem with some of our Imperial II solar lights that dated back to August 2015. The problem stemmed from faulty PCBs (panel circuit boards). Once she called me, I identified the issue and shipped out replacements right away,” Cohen said.
The result is happy campers
RV and campground staff members and visitors are pleased with the new lighting.
“They look nice and give off enough light without shining too bright into the campers’ windows,” Spalding said. “Our campers love them and we are seeing a difference in our electric bills.”
To date, they have installed about 60 new Gama Sonic Solar lights. Spalding said the project is ongoing and will continue until all the traditional outdoor lighting has been replaced with Gama Sonic solar lights.
