Glasgow Hospitals Increasing Security After Rise In Attacks

Since March, hospital staff have reported more than 2,300 attacks

Hospitals in Glasgow, Scotland are increasing security  because of a rise in verbal and physical attacks during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to an article on Security magazine website.

According to Glasgow Times, since March, hospital staff have reported more than 2,300 attacks, despite the reduction in  patients.

The highest rate of violence was recorded at Leverdale psychiatric hospital with 352 staff attacks.

Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) recorded 306 incidents. In June, an emergency room doctor was attacked twice during the same shift.

Overall, violence in healthcare continues to pose the greatest risk to hospital staff, according to an article on the Source Security website.

The International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) publishes security and design guidelines specific for healthcare facilities. The American Hospital Association (AHA) recently published a webpage specifically to assist in the mitigation of violence.
