Simplest changes to facility plans can impact the patient experience


For healthcare facilities, simple changes to plans can impact the experience of patients with accessibility challenges, according to an article on the Medical Design & Construction website.

For instance, sidewalks/pathways that are accessible on one side may have no exit point, thus requiring backtracking and looking for another route.

Healthcare institutions cannot afford to ignore this patient population, and the architects/ architectural firms who embrace this population will be poised to better serve healthcare partners and clients, the article said.

Entryways that provide both stairs and ramps in a tasteful design speak volumes. Design that presents equal access invites both the able-bodied and disabled communities.
