There are many ways to make a healthcare facility greener, including pest management. Instead of reactive chemical treatments, more and more healthcare facilities are using integrated pest management (IPM) tactics, according to an article on the Facility Management website.
IPM focuses on facility maintenance, stringent sanitation practices and ongoing inspections to keep pests away. With IPM, chemical treatments are only used as a last resort, and then only in highly-targeted areas.
There are several IPM tactics that don’t require chemicals. For instance, fighting flies can be as simple as changing the cleaning routine. Using organic cleaners will break down the grease and grime that collects in facility drains or on equipment and often attracts pests.
