Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, saw hand-hygiene compliance improve after a safety stand-down, according to an article on the Advance Healthcare website.
A "stand-down" is when everyone stops what they're doing, so that an issue can be immediately addressed.
Since the initiative, the facility's hand-washing compliance is above 90 percent.
The first step was increasing the number of sanitizer gel dispensers throughout the hospital and making sure they were easily accessible.
