A recent study found outpatient facility staffs failed to follow hand-hygiene policies 37 percent of the time, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.
Interviews with outpatient facility staff revealed that 93 percent of policies recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) were in place across the 15 facilities in the study.
In 37 percent of hand-hygiene observations, workers failed to comply with hand-washing policies.
The average hand-washing rates for all U.S. healthcare workers is generally below 50 percent.
