The hits — in the form of cyber attacks — just keep coming for healthcare systems, from an email attack potentially exposed about 45,000 patients' information to a ransomware attack cost a healthcare system about $67 million.
Now, a cyber attack has exposed the personal information of 200,000 people connected to Tacoma, Wash.-based MultiCare Health Systems, according to Q13 Fox. MultiCare said the breach was isolated to a third-party server tied to a number of pediatric clinics for Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Health Network.
System officials said the breach was isolated to the server for Woodcreek Provider Services, a medical practice management company, which is a separate system from MultiCare Health System and Mary Bridge Children’s. The primary electronic medical records database for the system was not affected by this incident.
The breached data was retrieved after an undisclosed ransom was paid. Names, Social Security numbers, and bank account information are among personal details potentially exposed in the ransomware attack.
