Health system switches to meats without unnecessary antibiotics

Morrison Healthcare Partners with Health Care Without Harm in serving meat and poultry without unnecessary antibiotics

More than 60 Morrison Healthcare hospitals will be serving meals that feature meat or poultry raised without non-therapeutic antibiotics, according to an article on the Business Week website.

Joining Health Care Without Harm and more than 300 other hospitals across the country, Morrison Healthcare is working to eliminate the overuse of antibiotics in animal agriculture and build a healthy, sustainable food supply.

Across the country on Food Day (Oct. 24) alone, participating hospitals collectively spent $87,000 on 9,000 pounds of chicken, 6,300 pounds of beef and 2,700 pounds of pork and other meats that are raised without non-therapeutic antibiotics, the article said.

Health Care Without Harm works with hospitals to help them become ecologically sustainable. On Food Day, events are held to promote improved food policies.
