Kaiser Permanente and Gundersen Health System each took aggressive approaches toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.
Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente vowed to reduce its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 30 percent between 2008 and 2020 and expects to reach the goal three years early.
Kaiser Permanente also recently announced goals to become carbon neutral by 2020.
Rather than purchase clean energy, Gundersen Health System, La Crosse, Wis., chooses to invest in a wide variety of renewable energy projects, often entering into ventures with local farmers, businesses and government entities. The system reached net zero on Oct. 14, 2014.
