While COVID-19 pandemic has visibly rallied support for healthcare workers, the often overlooked violence at their workplace hasn’t improved, according to an article on the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel website.
Healthcare facility parking garages often go unstaffed and cameras are unmonitored.
“I would literally look left and look right and then run to my car,” said Tierney Flynn, a nurse who worked at Columbia St. Mary’s on Milwaukee’s east side from 2017 until February.
To gauge the safety of Milwaukee area hospital parking garages, the Journal Sentinel hired a security expert to examine eight structures. His spot check found basic safety and security shortcomings in all of them, the article said.
Some healthcare facilities have installed LED lighting in their parking structures because, in part, it can provide enhanced security in the garage. There’s no longer glare around the wall-mounted cameras and they offer improved visibility when officers are patrolling, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.
