Healthcare facilities embracing lighting that inspires comfort and confidence

Lighting can be an essential design element influencing the staff, patient and visitor's perception of the hospital experience

Healthcare facilities are embracing design that inspires hope, comfort and confidence. Lighting can be an essential element influencing the perception of the hospital experience, according to an article on the Medical Design & Construction website.

At the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, illumination combines with simple and intuitive wayfinding to guide patients and visitors to their destination.

Lighting facilitates interaction at both information and department desks; a soft diffusion of light is used to ensure facial expressions are clearly visible. This key initial staff and patient/family interaction begins the diagnosis process, with the proper lighting helping to determine one’s level of pain, discomfort and anxiety, the article said.

The fully automated building responds to the cycle of the sun with natural light and artificial light complementing each other.
