Healthcare facility staff risks safety to avoid parking fees

Employees of of Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital in Birtinya, Australia, are choosing to park off-site to avoid paying up to $76.60 for two weeks of secured parking, raising concerns for their safety, according to an article on the Sunshine Coast Daily website.

One registered nurse working at the hospital said she walked 15 minutes to and from where she parked each day.

Parking rates have increased from $13.80 for one day for visitors to $14.20.

Queensland Nurses Union secretary Beth Mohle said a complaint had been made to their office regarding the parking at SCUPH. "We are aware there's an issue there," she said. "Our view is (parking) needs to be free or affordable and it needs to be safe."

Mohle said some other facilities provided shuttle buses for workers' safety.
