Reducing energy consumption is one of the most important duties of healthcare sustainability professionals, but it isn’t the only job they are doing in the modern healthcare environment. 

Modern Healthcare reports that, increasingly, these sustainability officers are tasked with tracking trends on waste, recycling, purchasing, transportation costs and water consumption.

Additionally, some head up volunteer committees that work in the community — and one team in Cleveland even went as far as to coordinate a farmers market on its main medical campus.
