For the tenth consecutive year, Herman Miller has been selected as an index component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) for 2013, being recognized for the company’s corporate sustainability leadership in their industry.
The S&P Dow Jones Indices is one of the world’s largest providers of financial market indices, and RobecoSAM is the investment specialist focused exclusively on Sustainability Investing. Launched in 1999, the DJSI was the first global indices to track the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide.
David Blitzer, Managing Director and Chairman of the S&P Dow Jones Index Committee, S&P Dow Jones Indices commented: “The market upheavals and high debt levels of the last few years should remind investors that a long term view of the world and the markets is essential. The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices combine that kind of long run focus on sustainability with index investing to empower investors.”
Since 2001, Herman Miller has regularly participated in the RobecoSAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) used to identify companies across all industries that outperform their peers in numerous sustainability metrics. The assessment includes three dimensions: economic, environmental, and social (including customer and supplier relationships, compensation, training, and employee satisfaction). Two new categories were also added to the assessment this year: climate strategy and occupational health and safety.
RobecoSAM invites over 3,000 publicly traded companies, including 800 companies in emerging markets, to report annually on their sustainability practices. This year, there was a 31% increase in participation
