Hoefer Wysocki Completes Iconic Design of The Olathe Health Physicians Inc. Hedge Lane Clinic

Interdisciplinary architecture and design firm Hoefer Wysocki (hoeferwysocki.com) announced today the completion of the Olathe Health Physicians Inc., Hedge Lane Clinic, located at 2090 W. Dartmouth St. in Olathe, Kan.The 9,400 sq.-ft., $2.2 million design-build project was a joint effort between Hoefer Wysocki, Meyer Brothers Building Company and the Olathe Health Physicians Inc. (OHPI), to launch a new, reusable prototype of single-story, outpatient medical office building.

The floor plan was created in pods that are easily replicated should the clinic need to expand, and provides next-generation access to healthcare in the communit“Unlike traditional urgent care facilities, the Hedge Lane Clinic has radiology, X-ray and lab capabilities with primary care and family medicine physicians and nurses to provide diagnostic and treatment services,” says Hoefer Wysocki Principal-in-Charge Jim Sterman, AIA, NCARB. “The goal was to create an iconic, one-stop facility that would efficiently meet healthcare needs of the surrounding community. Olathe residents can now schedule regular checkups, blood work, X-rays and more, all in one location while avoiding time-consuming trips to a hospital.”

An important theme in designing the clinic was its efficiency. Patient rooms were strategically placed between the reception area and healthcare team offices. This design was created to minimize medical personnel and patient walking distances. The OHPI’s new brand was thoughtfully integrated into the facility design. The Hoefer Wysocki team was tasked with bringing the blues and greens within the new logo from the inside, out. Exterior signage complements the interior color palette including carpet colors, accent walls and furniture selections. The contemporary look also translates the warm wood tones of the longboard siding and is replicated in the hardwood flooring and wood furnishings in patient waiting areas. The same stone used on the exterior canopy is repeated at the reception desk.

One challenging aspect of the design was the fabrication and installation of an illuminated logo that wraps around the northwest corner of the building’s exterior. The OPHI brand now has prominence and visibility to passersby. A sister clinic in Paola, Kan., which is set to open in January, 2018, includes similar design features.

Additional Hoefer Wysocki team members involved in the project include: Mark Pfeil, project manager, Nick Lawler, project architect, Bill McBride, project designer, Jim McClarty, architectural designer, Scott Johnson, architectural designer, and Ashley Eusey, construction manager. Consulting partners included Payne and Brockway, civil engineers, Smith and Boucher, MEP engineers, Bob D. Campbell, structural engineers, and Land 3 Studios, landscape architect.
