Hospital bends rules to grant Grandpa's dying wish to see his dog

Hospital credits infection control staff for making it happen

Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, Scotland, bent its infection control rules to allow  a dying man a last visit with his border collie, according to an article on the People magazine website.

The 70-year-old terminally ill grandfather’s only dying wish was for the hospital staff to allow his dog, Shep, to visit him.

The man’s family told the BBC that the hospital staff made “a dying man very happy” by accepting a pet visitor on the premises. Animals are only granted entry to the medical facility “under exceptional circumstances” due to infection control regulations, and his family had given up hope that this wish would be granted, the article said.

The hospital responded in kind on Facebook:

“We are so proud of our fantastic staff in Ward 3 and infection control at Ninewells for making this happen," hospital officials said.
