CROOM Orthopaedic Hospital in Limerick, Ireland, has failed to remove ceiling fans in clinical areas, despite repeated recommendations by infection experts and health inspectors for four years, according to an article on the Limerick Leader website.
Large ceiling fans operating in multi-occupancy rooms pose an infection control threat, the experts said.
A recent inspection found “heavy dust was visible” on the majority of ceiling ventilation grilles in patient bathrooms.
The inspectors did report progress in the areas of hand hygiene standards, infection prevention and control education, and policies in relation to infection control.
