Hospital shares mission through patient experience design

Sharon Erdman, director of Patient Experience Design at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., shares the design methods she uses to communicate Mayo's mission and history to patients and visitors alike.

By Healthcare Facilities Today

In a guest column for Healthcare Technology Online, Sharon Erdman, director of Patient Experience Design at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., shares the design methods she uses to communicate Mayo’s mission and history to patients and visitors alike.

Erdman suggests that this concept of using the physical space to express organizational culture is like creating museum exhibits and is easily transferable to other organizations. In her column she lays out a guide for other organizations to follow when designing their own exhibits, including how to choose locations and items for display.

Erdman will be presenting more information about her work at Mayo with the case study “Patient Experience & Design at Mayo Clinic” Feb. 27 at Digital Signage Expo 2013 in Las Vegas.
