Hospital staff prepares for decontamination emergency

Mayo Clinic Health System training simulates accident involving a chemical carrier

Mayo Clinic Health System training simulates an accident to prepare the Austin, Minn., hospital staff for a decontamination emergency, according to an article on the KIMT.com website.

Once a year, the hospital and others around the state receive this type of training. The trainees spent eight hours learning the ins and outs of emergency scenarios.

This year's scenerio involved an accident with a chemical carrier and three critically injured patients. Ten minutes later they learn that law enforcement, tow truck drivers and others were also impacted and need medical attention.

The hospital safety and emergency management coordinator said these drills are important so that everyone is up to date.
