Hospital staff worked through power outage at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland, that caused interruptions in some treatments, according to an article on the Telegram website.
The power was out in some areas of the hospital from about 2:45 to 3:55 p.m. after a loss of power at a substation.
A source at the Health Sciences Centre said that everything from the elevators to the computers were inoperative, and backup power had failed. The source said the place was lit up with lanterns “like the 1800s.”
Hospital staff worked through the extreme conditions by using flashlights and penlights to examine patients.
