Patient power is the rallying cry in this new era of medical consumerism, and hospital administrators in Houston and across the nation are heeding the call, the article said.

Such things as menu, noise reduction, privacy, lighting options, access to bathrooms, nurse call buttons and comfort are receiving more attention. 

"Everything we do is a balance between our safety and infection control and our desire to make the patient experience as comfortable as possible," a hospital official said.
