Hospitals in Vermont and New Hampshire struggle for clean linens after plant closing

Some hospitals are now getting linens from as far away as New York and Canada


More than a dozen hospitals in Vermont and New Hampshire are scrambling to find clean linens. after Kleen Inc. recently closed its plant in West Lebanon, N.H., according to an article on the VTdigger website.

Hospital officials said they were informed Kleen, which is one of only a handful of linen providers in the region, was closing with less than two weeks’ notice.

 Some hospitals are getting linens from as far away as New York and Canada now, while others doing thousands of pounds of laundry themselves.

For instance, Copley Hospital in Morrisville, Vermont,  is renting a mobile laundry trailer and paying employees and per diem staff to wash 6,000 pounds of laundry a week themselves,
