Hospitals invest in systems to encourage hand hygiene, prevent infection

Hospitals across the country are responding to the low adherence to hand-washing protocols by using new systems to monitor employees and encourage them to wash their hands.

Despite being accepted industry-wide as an effective method for preventing the spread of disease, hand hygiene remains a challenge in healthcare facilities nationwide. 

According to a recent New York Times article, hospitals across the country are responding to the low adherence to hand-washing protocols by using new systems to monitor employees and encourage them to wash their hands. 

Among the technologies discussed in the article are electronic badges that track hand-washing, video monitoring programs, and undercover ‘secret shoppers’ who monitor whether or not coworkers are complying with protocols.
