A recent report is urging healthcare facilities to avoid antimicrobial furnishings for now, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.
Health Care Without Harm (HCWH), suggests seeking more evidence on the safety and efficacy of furnishings containing antimicrobials.
In the report, “Antimicrobials in Hospital Furnishings: Do They Help Reduce Healthcare-Associated Infections?,” HCWH says there is little evidence to support the use of antimicrobials in furnishings.
Safety concerns associated with the manufacture, use and disposal of antimicrobials also need careful research, the report said.
