Ilios sells seven water-source natural gas engine driven heat pumps to major biomedical research facility in Florida

Waltham, Mass. – Ilios Dynamics, a subsidiary of Tecogen Inc. (NASDAQ: TGEN) announced the sale of seven HEWH-500-WS natural gas engine driven heat pumps to a world-class biomedical research facility in Florida. The product will be implemented in such a manner as to provide hot water and chilled water simultaneously. The hot and chilled water is needed for precise climate control in laboratory environments where both temperature and humidity must be maintained to specific conditions.

The units will be providing hot water at over twice the efficiency of the existing boiler plant, thereby saving considerable natural gas as well as the corresponding CO2 savings associated with consuming less fuel. Cooling, a free by-product, will be used to chill water and will “peak shave” their existing chiller plant saving kilowatt hours (kWh) as well as reducing costly demand charges. The electric savings realized in the central chilling plant will also provide additional CO2 reduction for the facility.

The Ilios natural gas engine driven heat pump is part of a larger energy efficiency retrofit project being implemented by a forward thinking top-tier mechanical contractor. This project will be the first of its kind in Florida.

“Research laboratories and pharmaceutical facilities represent a major vertical market that we are focusing a lot of our attention on,” says Steve Lafaille, Ilios Product Manager. “These types of facilities are inherently energy intensive; with a constant need for heating and cooling. World class facilities such as these strive to be innovative in every sense, in their research, their products, as well as in their energy conservation measures, and we plan to capitalize on that. The Ilios product delivers a lot of value in a small package-massive energy savings, carbon reduction, and clean emissions, making it a wise choice for environmentally conscious facilities.”

About Ilios

Ilios Dynamics, a subsidiary of Tecogen Inc., was formed in April 2009 to develop and distribute a line of

ultra high-efficiency heating products for commercial and industrial applications utilizing advanced

thermodynamic principles. Products incorporate mechanical work to extract heat from the environment to

supplement chemical energy available from natural gas or propane. The result is a significant boost in

efficiency and reduced carbon emissions relative to conventional heating systems. Please visit
