The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board said that no more beds were needed at an Olympia Fields hospital after Franciscan St. James Health's submitted a restructuring plan, according to an article on the Chicago Tribune website.
Franciscan St. James wants to close a hospital in Chicago Heights and relocate services to its Olympia Fields hospital, which is about 5 miles away.
To accommodate patients who have been served in Chicago Heights, Franciscan St. James wants to add 56 beds to the Olympia Fields facility at a cost of $114.6 million.
The review board said that even with the closing of the Chicago Heights hospital, the south and southwest suburbs would have too many hospital beds.
