Imprivata is the most widely selected single sign-on solution by Canadian hospitals according to HIMSS analytics

By Healthcare Facilities Today

Imprivata, a leading global provider of healthcare IT security solutionsannounced that its single sign-on (SSO) solution is the most widely selected amongst Canadian hospitals with a 34 percent market share, according to the most recent data from HIMSS Analytics.

One Canadian hospital relying on Imprivata is Mackenzie Health, a major regional healthcare facility based in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Mackenzie Health uses Imprivata to streamline access to its McKesson electronic medical records (EMR) system and other clinical applications to allow its providers to better focus on patient care. Prior to implementing Imprivata, Mackenzie Health estimates that in its emergency department alone, most clinicians were required to enter their login credentials up to 60 times per shift, which amounted to up to 25 minutes per clinician per shift of wasted time.

“It is our job to ensure that clinicians have fast, secure access to the technology and information they need to deliver the highest quality patient care possible. Although requiring providers to enter distinct credentials satisfied security requirements, it was clear that it disrupted clinicians and detracted from patient care,” said Diane Salois-Swallow, CIO at Mackenzie Health. “Imprivata addresses these challenges and enables us to strike an optimal balance between information access and security. We consider Imprivata to be an important partner as we shape our long-term strategy as it is clear that Imprivata understands clinical workflows and designs solutions to satisfy both IT and provider requirements.”

According to a May 2013 HIMSS Analytics report titled, “Streamlining Workflows and Access to Patient Data in Canadian Hospitals,” Canadian hospitals face several key barriers to enabling clinicians to seamlessly access patient data, including the lack of integration between electronic systems, a frequent inability to access information quickly and concerns about privacy and security. The study identifies SSO and authentication management as prominent solutions to streamline access to clinical systems, keep information secure and enable better focus on patient care.

“The HIMSS Analytics market share data and report validate that Canadian hospitals look first to Imprivata to enable fast, secure No Click Access® to clinical applications to allow their providers to better focus on patient care,” said Chris Shaw, senior vice president and general manager, OneSign Products Group at Imprivata. “We have seen substantial growth in Canadian hospitals selecting Imprivata solutions to enable secure, seamless access to clinical applications to optimize workflows while also ensuring that systems and information remain secure. We encourage attendees at the Ontario Hospital Association’s HealthAchieve Conference to visit our booth to learn how Imprivata can help boost EMR adoption and workflow efficiency as well as improve clinical communication and collaboration within their organization.”
