International projects come with lessons for U.S. healthcare interior designers

International projects often focus on the importance of family

International healthcare facility design projects do a good job integrating the importance of family into facilities, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

In areas where families tend to be larger and more involved, public spaces and patient rooms are generously sized to accommodate more people, the article said.

For instance, placing the bathroom inboard in the room creates a greater amount of space so large families can gather without disrupting caregiver workflow.

Other culturally based elements include separate waiting areas designed for families (men, women and children) and men alone.
