Though he often gets questions concerning the Life Safety Code (LSC) that are difficult to answer, consultant Brad Keyes said it is precarious to offer advice on code interpretation if you are not the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).
"After all, section 4.6.1.1 of the 2000 LSC says the AHJ shall determine whether the provisions of the code are met — it doesn’t say Brad Keyes shall make that determination," he wrote in an article on the FacilityCare website.
Keyes said he enjoys researching the NFPA codes and standards for a client even though not all code searches end up favoring the client’s position. In his blog, he offered two examples where a considerable amount of research was necessary, though the outcome was not necessarily favorable.
