Jersey City healthcare facility has 'rampant' rodent problem

Residents and staff report mice in resident rooms, hallways and cafeteria

Residents and staff report mice in resident rooms, hallways and cafeteria at the Alaris Health at Harborview lomg-term health facility in Jersey City, N.J., according to an article on the NJ.com.

"These are not mice, these are horses. I mean I've never seen a mouse so big," said Ora Crutcher, 75, who has been receiving physical therapy at Harborview for the past month. "The mice are running rampant. I hear people screaming at night because a mouse surprises them in their sleep."

Alaris Health spokeswoman Lainie Messina said the facility is currently addressing its rodent problem. She said the standard pest control protocol requires an exterminator to come twice a month, but due to the harsh winter, they have had the exterminator come on a weekly basis, according to the article.

Messina said all pipeholes between floors have been sealed and that they are doing additional sweeps to address any other entrance points. Residents have also been advised not to bring any loose food into their rooms.
