Joint Commission online learning module addresses long-term care infections

Online educational tool focuses on how to apply high-reliability principles

The Joint Commission today released an online educational tool designed to apply the principles of high reliability to reducing infections in long-term care settings such as nursing homes and assisted living facilities, according to an article on the Joint Commission website.

The learning module, “Applying High Reliability Principles to the Prevention and Control of Infections in Long Term Care,” is a 50-minute, e-learning tool that can be viewed all at once or in two parts. It is free to anyone in online or CD formats.

The goal of the module is to introduce the principles of high reliability and show how they can have a significant impact on infection in long-term care settings. High reliability solutions come from the study of industries such as commercial aviation and nuclear power that operate under hazardous conditions while maintaining exemplary safety records.
