Kratos and Norse announce services to deliver live threat intelligence to increase cybersecurity awareness for healthcare providers

By Healthcare Facilities Today

SAN DIEGO and SAN MATEO, Calif.- Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:KTOS), a leading National Security Solutions provider, and Norse, the leading provider of live threat intelligence-based cybersecurity solutions, announced today that Kratos' SecureInfo business group and Norse will jointly offer services to deliver increased cybersecurity awareness for healthcare providers. Initial efforts will include providing live fraud and security intelligence data and the expertise to help healthcare providers secure electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI). The services will target the healthcare market first and others in the future.

Cyber attacks are on the rise, and healthcare is among the biggest targets due both to the value of the personal information and the accessibility of the data through external networks and web applications. For example, a February 2014 SANS report, citing data from the Norse global threat intelligence platform, which continuously collects and analyzes live high risk Internet traffic, detected signs of compromise from 375 U.S.-based healthcare related networks based on 49,917 observed attacks. The Norse data also revealed that a range of exploited equipment, including conferencing systems, web servers, printers, edge security technologies and medical devices, was sending out malicious traffic from medical organizations.

This high volume of attacks, expanding beyond traditional IT systems, includes threats that are using new sophisticated methods and tactics that render current security solutions much less effective, increasing the need for real-time approaches that enable the rapid detection and mitigation of advanced threats reducing the risk of data breach.

"Healthcare payers, providers and business associates are exposed to countless attacks that go undetected," said Yong-Gon Chon, Sr. Vice President of the Kratos SecureInfo business group. "Through our partnership with Norse, we can supply a standard of care and safety to Healthcare IT that patients expect. Kratos SecureInfo has been working with healthcare organizations around the country to improve patient data privacy and security to ensure compliance with HIPAA and HITECH."

"These widespread breaches are causing a significant loss of revenue and reputation for healthcare organizations," explains Sam Glines, CEO of Norse. "Together with Kratos, Norse will provide live threat intelligence that adapts to the changing threat environment and the expertise to counter the increasingly sophisticated and evolving attacks that are plaguing the healthcare industry."

"Our relationship with Norse is a new key element of our growth strategy," said Phil Carrai, President of Kratos' Technology & Training Division. "Today, Kratos' cybersecurity business, including our Kratos SecureInfo group and our product focused efforts, exceeds $100 million in annual revenue. Kratos solutions protect some of the most sophisticated and mission critical communication networks and infrastructure for National Security applications, commercial enterprises and healthcare organizations."
