LIGHTFAIR International 2016 keynotes and impact speaker will share inspiration and vision for the future

Gensler principal Daniel Stromborg leads a field of celebrated speakers delivering LIGHTFAIR® International 2016 Keynote and Impact addresses all focused on advancing a global vision for the future of lighting and design.  Stromborg and other acclaimed experts will take the LIGHTFAIR® Conference stage at the San Diego Convention Center where more than 140 top presenters will appear April 24 – 28 (Pre-Conference LIGHTFAIR Institute®: April 24 – 25; Trade Show & Conference: April 26 – 28).

Stromborg, Firmwide Product Design Practice Area Leader at Gensler, will share his vision for the future with “The Power of Design from Macro to Micro” on Sunday, April 24, 12:15-1:45 p.m. as a LIGHTFAIR Institute® Keynote Luncheon Speaker in Room 20 BCD.  He will present a survey of Gensler’s Design Forecast, a yearlong effort that identifies six global megatrends that will transform how we work, live and play in the cities of 2025. The Design Forecast is a collaboration of the firm’s global sector leaders and 31 global practice area leaders.

Stromborg joined Gensler's Los Angeles office in 2014 as the Southwest Region's Director of Product.  He is currently the global Practice Area Leader where he helps inspire design teams to translate Gensler’s voice and vision into tangible products for workplace and lifestyle environments.  Previously, Stromborg worked with graphic design pioneer April Greiman and industrial design legend Don Chadwick before setting off to start his own studio, The Creative Common Good, whose clients include Knoll, Elizabeth Arden, RealD and Crate & Barrel.

Bjarke Ingels, founding partner of BIG Bjarke Ingels Group, will present “Social Infrastructure” on April 25, 12:15-1:45 p.m. as a LIGHTFAIR Institute® Keynote Luncheon Speaker in Room 20 BCD.  This Monday Keynote Luncheon is sponsored by EATON – Booth 2916.  This lecture will explore how the built infrastructure of the past can be reborn as social and cultural shapers of life and how one can proactively think of the city as a platform to use these utilities to enrich the city and become a proactive part of the public realm.

Ingels started BIG Bjarke Ingels Group in 2005 after co-founding PLOT Architects in 2001 and working at OMA in Rotterdam.  Through a series of award-winning design projects and buildings, Ingels has developed a reputation for designing buildings that are as programmatically and technically innovative as they are cost and resource conscious.  Alongside his architectural practice, Ingels taught at Harvard University, Yale University, Columbia University and Rice University and is an honorary professor at the Royal Academy of Arts, School of Architecture in Copenhagen.  He is a frequent public speaker and has spoken in venues such as TED, WIRED, AMCHAM, 10 Downing Street and the World Economic Forum.

Legends of Lighting Impact Speaker: James Carpenter will speak on “The Substance of Light in the Public Realm” on April 27 from 12:15-1 p.m. in The HUB Lounge, located in the Sails Pavilion, Upper Level.  Award-winning Carpenter, of James Carpenter Design Associates Inc., has worked at the intersection of architecture, fine art and engineering for nearly 50 years, advancing a distinctive vision based on the use of natural light as the foundational element of the built environment.

Originally studying architecture before concentrating on the fine arts, Carpenter founded the cross-disciplinary design firm James Carpenter Design Associates in 1979 to support the application of these aesthetic principles to large-scale architectural projects. Carpenter’s work is driven by a deep awareness of materiality and craft as a means of enhancing the individual human experience within the built environment.
