The $62 million Langley Air Force Base hospital expansion project was named best project in a public sector building over $15 million by the Design Build Institute of America, according to an article on the Healthcare Construction + Operations website.
The 160,000-square-foot renovation modernized the facilities to support new technologies and equipment. The majority of the renovations occurred in the main hospital building, the article said.
The project included modernizing the life safety and mechanical systems and replacing and upgrading brick façades, windows and roofing.
The expansion also included the addition of a 3,492-square-foot veterinary clinic to serve the military working dogs as well as the pets of base personnel.
All departments remained fully operational throughout construction, without the use of modular or temporary buildings.
