Legrand North and Central America Announce 2019 Energy Marathon, a Company-Wide Energy Reduction Program

Legrand North and Central America, a global innovation leader in power, light, and data technologies for homes, workplaces, and data centers, today announced that Thursday, October 3rd will kick off the company’s third Energy Marathon.

Energy Marathon is a company-wide employee engagement competition designed to save as much energy as possible through ready-to-implement technology and process changes, and to reshape energy usage behaviors. Previously held in 2014 and 2016, this year’s event will include participation at multiple new company sites across the country.

Based on the length of a marathon, 26.2 miles, the event takes place over a 26.2-day period. Through friendly competition, facility managers and employees are motivated to find new and innovative ways to save energy. The goal of the competition is to establish and sustain energy behavior changes and develop energy savings best practices that can be adopted permanently.

In 2016, 22 competing sites saved a total of 722,941 kWh and $79,725. Legrand North and Central America also reduced electricity use by 15.9% during the event. Individual site reductions strategies included ensuring machines, lights and other equipment were properly shut down at the end of the work day, as well as re-configuring lighting controls to only illuminate occupied spaces at any given time. The 2019 Energy Marathon will encourage similar sites with comparable processes to work together in pairs to share best practices. Company-wide 26 sites will participate in the marathon.

“In our previous Energy Marathons, we were extremely impressed with our employee’s resourcefulness in finding new and impactful ways to save energy,” stated Susan Rochford, Vice President, Energy Efficiency, Sustainability and Public Policy, Legrand North and Central America. “We are confident this year will be our best event yet and our teams will again find innovative ways we can positively impact our energy consumption both short and long term.”
