Legrand introduces evolution series 10-inch poke-thru device: offers eight gangs of communication, A/V and power capacity

Legrand, a global leader in power, light and data technologies, introduces its newest Evolution™ Series 10-inch poke-thru device that offers eight individual gangs of communication, audio video and power capacity, eliminates the need for junction boxes and is designed with a highly durable, aesthetically pleasing cover assembly. Users can mix and match devices, ports and receptacles to configure each of the eight gangs to suit their individual requirements.

Mike Cole, senior product manager for Legrand’s Wiremold® product line, said, “Seven years ago, Legrand patented the invention of the recessed poke-thru, but, with the new Evolution 10-inch device, we bring this category to a new level – offering the most connectivity of any poke-thru device on the market.”

Legrand is also the first manufacturer to offer wired connections inside a poke-thru device – a fact that eliminates the need for a junction box. As a result, the device occupies much less vertical space or depth in the floor, and is therefore less obtrusive when installed in open-ceiling buildings.

The Evolution 10-inch poke-thru installs easily, making it an ideal choice for both retrofit and new construction applications. And, for service additions and changes, simply lift the unit out of its installed position in the floor. Cole explained, “Because the poke-thru lifts out easily from the floor, electrical professionals can easily change from one service to another – for example, from a power receptacle to a digital media device. And because the unit has so much capacity, it’s easy to get your hands in to change out a simple receptacle without even removing the unit from its position in the floor.”

Heavy-duty, die-cast aluminum covers are built to withstand up to 700 pounds of pressure as well as heavy traffic encountered in open spaces. Covers are manufactured with a durable, self-aligning hinge assembly and swivels open a full 180 degrees. When compared to traditional flip-top covers, the fully open cover is expected to reduce tripping incidents.

Evolution Series 10-inch poke-thru devices are designed with spring-loaded, patented, slide egress doors that not only accommodate the space required for cables to exit the device but also shut automatically when the user closes the cover.

“We’ve also improved the aesthetics of this new poke-thru,” added Cole. The cover includes a built-in handle for easy access, has a symmetrical design and is available in eight finishes enabling designers and specifiers to better coordinate it with their room’s decor.

“The new Evolution 10-inch poke-thru is expected to be particularly attractive to A/V integrators because of its capacity and the fact that it can be custom configured,” Cole added. “As an example, it can accommodate a standard, three-gang digital media device, six ports of communication and four duplex power receptacles. That’s a lot of capacity in one unit.”

The device is UL listed and UL fire classified for up to two hours in accordance with U.S. and Canadian safety standards. It also meets all scrub water requirements.
