Magazine announces healthcare design winners

Healthcare Design names winners of second annual 'The HCD 10' competition

Healthcare Design magazine recently named the winners of the second annual 'The HCD 10' competition. According to the magazine, the awards honor "an elite group of design and architecture professionals who represent the most exciting, inspirational, and influential healthcare work of the previous year."

Nominated by their peers, the winners were selected by the magazine editors from dozens of submissions in 10 categories.

“Things are changing so fast in the healthcare arena, and it takes a dedicated team of facility managers, designers, construction experts, advocates, educators, and more to build the kind of healthcare facilities that will meet the needs and demands of today’s consumers and be flexible enough for the future,”­ said Kristin D. Zeit, editor-in-chief of Healthcare Design.

Association/foundation executive: Douglas Erickson, Facility Guidelines Institute 

Construction executive: Carlos Gonzalez, Clark/McCarthy, A Joint Venture 

Educator: James Shraiky, Arizona State University 

Facility manager: Mitch Goplen, Billings Clinic 

Interior designer: Carolyn BaRoss, Perkins+Will   

Owner: David Schuller, The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center—Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute 

Researcher: Sheila Bosch, Gresham, Smith and Partners 

Rising star: David Ruthven, NXT Health 

Firm of the year: Perkins+Will
