Manhattan medical school project cures chronic gloominess

The Roy and Diana Vagelos Education Center at the Columbia University Medical Center opened to students in mid-August

Manhattan's Roy and Diana Vagelos Education Center at the Columbia University Medical Center cures the chronic gloominess expected from medical schools, according to an article on the Metropolis website.

Tucked away in New York’s Washington Heights, Columbia’s new 14-story building has a compact footprint — just 12,500 square feet at the base.

It also includes a suite of active-learning classrooms, mock examination and operating rooms, an anatomy lab, a special-events space, lounges and a 275-person auditorium.

The Anatomy Quad has the look of a sci-fi film set, the article said.  The perimeter of glass is sheathed in translucent coverings that keep the room’s activities shrouded, but admit plenty of daylight.
