Many hospitals at risk for EHR penalties

Small, rural U.S. hospitals not meeting electronic health record requirements

Under the 2009 Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health act, hospitals and healthcare providers must demonstrate that their electronic health records systems are capable of certain tasks that constitute "meaningful use" by 2015. Providers that don’t meet the requirements will be penalized. 

According to an article on the D Healthcare Daily web site, a new study has found that small and rural U.S. hospitals are most at risk of not the federal requirements.
