Mass. Hospital Keeping COVID Transmissions at Nearly Zero

The Boston hospital has dedicated COVID-19 units with airborne infection isolation rooms

A study has found that Brigham and Women's Hospital’s COVID infection control measures have kept transmission to patients at nearly zero, according to an article on the Drugs website.

The Boston hospital has implemented the masking of all patients, staff and visitors; dedicated COVID-19 units with airborne infection isolation rooms; personal protective equipment in accordance with U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations, and restricted visitor policy.

Employees and patients undergo daily symptom screening, and all patients are tested upon admission .

The hospital cared for more than 9,000 inpatients during that time of the study, including nearly 700 with COVID-19. But only two patients likely acquired the disease within the hospital, the researchers said.

A Kaiser Health News investigation found that many nursing homes and hospitals ignored official guidelines to separate COVID-19 patients from those not infected, according to an article on the NPR website.
