The Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, Mass., is replacing its kitchen hood and updating its kitchen equipment as part of the facility's larger effort to become more energy efficient, according to an article on the Recorder website.
“We want to reduce our energy consumption because it affects our overall bottom line. The fewer expenses we have, the more we can put toward patient care,” Greg Oles, manager of engineering at the hospital, said in the article.
Other changes include switching to LED lights and natural gas using green technology in the planned new operating rooms.
The new kitchen system will have a mechanism that takes and exhausts tempered air from the kitchen hood and not from the building. It will result in less heat loss.
Aging kitchen equipment, from the gas-fired grills to the steam kettles and ovens, will also be replaced with higher efficiency equipment.
