McElroy introduces Spider 125 socket fusion tool

TULSA, Okla. – McElroy, the leading manufacturer of thermoplastic pipe joining products, has launched the Spider™ 125 socket fusion tool. The Spider 125 is a lightweight, compact socket fusion device that brings pipe and fittings together evenly and under control.

The Spider 125 allows a single technician to properly align, heat, fuse and cool the pipe. The device is non-back drivable, which means that constant and consistent pressure is maintained throughout the socket fusion process. The device is designed for 63mm to 125mm polypropylene-random (PP-R)

“We believe that the Spider 125 will soon become the preferred equipment for socket fusion field installations for plumbing and mechanical contractors,” said Chip McElroy, president of McElroy. “On jobsites where the Spider 125 was field tested, operators found they were able to perform socket fusions overhead, vertically and in tight spaces much easier than with previous methods.”

The Spider 125 is unique, working by attaching the pipe and fitting using a complete encirclement clamping system that makes slippage during the joining process a thing of the past. The device’s crank handle allows the operator to efficiently bring the pipe and fitting into contact with a socket fusion heater, to remove the heater after the proper soak time, and then to bring the pipe and fitting together to fuse and cool. The Spider uses a worm gear drive and parallel link system to bring the pipe and fitting together smoothly and accurately with efficient, controllable force. The device offers a 20-to-1 mechanical advantage and weighs 13 pounds.

McElroy will sell the Spider 125 separately and as part of the Spider 125 Kit Package. The package combines a custom-designed toolbox, Spider stand, and organization system to help with the job. A variety of popular pipe and fitting size inserts are included with both the Spider 125 and Spider 125 Kit.

The company envisions that the product will have uses for potable water and food-grade applications, compressed air systems, hydronic heating, chilled water, recycled and reclaimed water applications, rainwater collection and irrigation, industrial applications, chemical transport, in-floor heating systems and fire suppression systems.
