The largest healthcare projects are overseas — mostly in Asia and the Middle East — and top out at more than 1,000 beds and 1 million square feet, according to a blog by Sheila Cahnman on the Healthcare Design website. Cahnman, vice president, healthcare market sector leader, at Aecom, wrote that government-sponsored healthcare overseas allows for centralized management and funding. Often these countries are catching up due to population growth, replacing obsolete or undersized facilities and transforming from Third World economies.
